For the duration of the FIFA World Cup™ from 11th June 2010 – 11th July 2010, adidas Originals will be hosting Three Stories: a series of private match viewings and exhibitions at 66 Albert Road, a 60 year old industrial building in the heart of Woodstock, Cape Town. The month-long schedule of events will include a line up of local music talent, exhibitions, sports and Originals sports fans.
The venue is the home of /A WORD OF ART; a locally run art project space that aims to support artists’ needs and help towards the development of Woodstock and a creative Cape Town. The adidas Originals Three Stories project with will be curated by /A WORD OF ART and hosted by the Woodstock Industrial Centre. The building will be open daily - free to all that wish to show support for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
Three Stories activities will include an indoor skate park, exhibition areas, live DJ’s, exclusive viewing parties and more – all under one roof and over three stories. Paper Girl, One Night Only, The Bin and the T-Shirt show are some of the exhibitions that will be displayed during the FIFA World Cup™ period for all visitors to enjoy.
Paper Girl is a non commercial, spontaneous, analogue art initiative that collects paper artwork and distributes them on bicycles, making art available to the masses. Paper Girl exists in 16 countries worldwide. One Night Only pairs artists that would not usually collaborate – for one night only,,, and the T-Shirt show gives 15 artists a chance to create limited edition T’s which visitors to the gallery can purchase during this month-long period only. ‘The bin’ was a legendary Cape Town urban art gallery and lifestyle store and this show pays homage to this pioneer of our scene, celebrating established artists and introducing some emerging, exciting artists. Many artists will contribute to this one night only show and their works will be sold at affordable prices on a first come first served basis.
Over and above these activities; exclusive game viewing parties will be held for the FIFA World Cup™ matches. Join us at one of our six exhibitions openings (full schedule attached) and find out more about our “invitation only” FIFA World Cup™ viewing areas and how you can secure an invite.
A major highlight and one to take note of is on Friday, 2nd July, the day of the first quarter final and also the launch of the Chapter two: “Friends” exhibition at Three Stories. The exhibition will also host international DJ Neil Armstrong who will fly into Cape Town to DJ for one performance only. Neil Armstrong is Jay-Z’s official tour DJ and a global adidas Originals trend ambassador. He plays a sexy mix of hip-hop and beats and is an exclusive guest of adidas Originals Three Stories.
For those travelling into town to visit Three Stories take note that all trains and certain train stations will have additional security for the duration of the FIFA World Cup™. In addition, the use of non-motorised transport and car pooling is greatly encouraged to minimise traffic on our roads. For the benefit of our guests; adidas Originals is offering a taxi service commuting between Long Street and Three Stories to ensure easy accessibility to an Original World Cup experience.
