Jennifer McLeish-Lewis and Brian Johnson in Residence

Jennifer McLeish-Lewis and Brian Johnson have recently arrived from Vancouver, Canada for a one month residence with /A WORD OF ART. During their time here, they will be focusing on creating the first stage of a stop-motion dance film entitled Sidereal Time.

This project is an exploration of the subjective nature of time, and man’s need to control this in order to conquer space, through time lapsed photography of a dancer “animating” their body in expressing a choreographic work. The work consists of two films, one shot in Cape Town and one in Vancouver, two classic port towns of early colonialist expansion. These two films will eventually be presented in sync as a double stream video installation, and conflated into a single stream film for broadcast or traditional cinematic exhibition.
